We all had a wonderful time with her last year and are so excited to be hosting her again right before quilt market!
This three and a half day retreat begins with a scrumptious supper on the evening of October 20th and lasts until after the delicious breakfast on October 23rd. Meals and snacks are provided along with comfortable beds in Valley Ranch’s colorful signature bedroom wing.
Terms: $100 non-refundable deposit for reservation and the balance due 30 days prior (September 20th, 2016) to the event on October 20-23, 2016. No refunds within 30 days of the event.

My Small World
Requirements list for class
- 80 cm (7/8 yd.) in total of neutrals and tone on tone fabrics for sky (fat 16ths work well)
- 20 cm (1/4 yd.) in total of assorted greens for country side
- 1-1.25 m (1-1/2 yds.) total of colored fabrics for blocks (small pieces or fat 16ths work well)
This is the yardage for the completed quilt. Bring to class lots of color and print to play with. Small pieces work really well and can be a great way to use some of your stash
- Rotary cutter, mat, ruler
- Sewing machine with 1/4″ foot
- Template plastic (a thicker one works best)
- Scissors to cut plastic
- Ultra-fine Permanent black marking pen
- Mechanical (propelling) pencil with a 2B lead. I use 0.7mm
- Sandpaper board or a piece of medium grade sand paper
- 1/4″ simple seam wheel or 1×6″ ruler with 1/4″ markings
- Cotton threads to match or a neutral to blend
- Straw or milliner’s needles size 11
- Black embroidery floss
- General sewing requirements (pins, scissors, etc.)

Requirements
These fabric requirements are for the entire quilt. For class you just need a wide selection of small cuts of fabric e.g. fat eighths.
4-5 yds. total of a wide variety of colors and prints. Florals, geometrics, stripes. Fat 16ths and fat 8ths work well. Remember to include lights, mediums, and some darks.
- 4 yds. fabric for backing
- 2 yds. square batting
- 5/8th yd. fabric for binding
*please note, you do not need to bring backing, binding or wadding to class as we will be concentrating on making the blocks
- Template plastic
- Fine permanent marker
- Scissors for plastic
- Fabric scissors
- Straw needles size 11
- Neutral cotton thread to blend with fabrics
- General sewing requirements e.g. pins
- Mechanical pencil (propelling) with 2B lead
- 1/4″ simple seam wheel
- Sandpaper board or piece of medium grade sandpaper
- Or Jen Kingwell Designs Halo acrylic template set and rotary cutting equipment
- If you wish to machine piece you can include your machine
For hand quilting demo
- 18 inch approx. quilt sandwich i.e. 2 fat quarters and a piece of batting cut to this size. Solid fabrics work well as it’s easy to visualize your stitches. Make sure the batting is recommended for hand quilting e.g. quilters dream request
- Chenille needles size 24 or crewel needle size 8
- Perle thread 8 wt. or Aurifil 12 wt.
- Hoop optional
